Leap Writing

In an effort to keep the creative flow going, I have adopted a new technique: Leap Writing. Yes, this is an amazing tool to use. Instead of getting caught in the dreaded CREATIVE WRITING BLOCK, I just stop and LEAP into a new part of the story, planned or unplanned.

'....Mary and Tom had been hiking through the Rockies for most of the day. Fortunately, the trek had taken them through a deep forested valley, coolness and thick foliage blocking out the harsh, high sun. They....' (oh no! The dreaded BLOCK! what do I do? where's the exit??!)

LEAP WRITING TIME!

"Run!" Mary cried, and realized she was screaming to dead silence. She stopped turning long enough to see and hear that Tom was no longer behind her. "Oh God..." she whimpered, the forest now looming around her, "Tom?" she didn't dare raise her voice above a forced whisper, "Tom?!" Nothing. No sounds at all, it seemed that the dense and dark green around her held it's breathe.
"MARRRYY!!" The shrieking voice pounded against Mary and the silence like a hammer, "MAARRR..." The phantom like silence returned, Toms voice sliced away at mid scream. Nausea and fear froze Mary, she felt numb even to the hot urine now running down her inside thigh.
"I cant move..." she whimpered. In her heart she knew that the hot breathe on the back of her neck meant death. "I want to go home..."

So there it is folks, that's an example of LEAP WRITING.
